The story

Twenty-year-old Bobby Pierce found a lane of his own, erased Earl Pearson Jr.’s long run at the front and became the youngest Show-Me 100 winner.

The silver-anniversary weekend drew 69 cars to Lucas Oil Speedway. Earl Pearson Jr. won Thursday’s Cowboy Classic and Tim McCreadie captured Friday’s Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson before rain pushed the scheduled Saturday finale to Sunday.

McCreadie led the opening two laps of the 100-lapper before Pearson took over on lap 3. Pearson controlled the next 84 circuits, but Pierce climbed from 14th by attacking a higher lane through the rough surface. He drove around Pearson in turns three and four on lap 87 and led the final 14 laps.

Pearson finished second, followed by McCreadie and Scott Bloomquist. Jonathan Davenport charged from 30th to fifth after receiving the past champions provisional. Pierce earned $30,000, became the event’s 12th different winner and, at age 20, its youngest champion.

Pearson started fourth, passed Jesse Stovall for the lead on lap 15 and controlled the final 31 laps. Scott Bloomquist finished second and Jimmy Owens was third.
