The story
The 2009 edition drew 67 cars to West Plains and carried Lucas Oil sanctioning. Owens set fast time at 15.575 seconds, won his heat and led the first 19 laps of the feature.
Birkhofer moved ahead on lap 20 and never gave the position back. He earned $40,000, with Jimmy Mars second, Scott Bloomquist third, Owens fourth and Don O’Neal fifth.
Birkhofer became the eighth different winner in the event’s first 17 editions. The expanded 25-car feature distributed $132,150 in listed payouts.
