The story
Jimmy Owens survived a first-lap pileup, took the lead from Scott Bloomquist on lap 11 and drove into history with his third consecutive Show-Me 100 victory.
The weekend began with 72 Late Models chasing 32 starting spots. Scott Bloomquist set the overall pace at 14.902 seconds and won the first heat, while Don O'Neal dominated the fourth heat to join him on the front row. Tyler Reddick, Jesse Stovall, Jimmy Owens and Steve Francis won the other heat races before Saturday's field was completed through three B-Mains and the Show-Me Challenge.
The feature almost went wrong for Owens before it truly began. Several cars tangled in turn two on the opening lap after O'Neal got sideways on a slick surface. Owens escaped with damage to the quarter-panel and door, but nothing reached a tire or the suspension. When the race restarted, Bloomquist led the first 10 laps before Owens drove past him on lap 11.
Once clear, Owens looked untouchable. Chris Simpson steadily worked forward and took second from Bloomquist with fewer than 20 laps remaining. A final caution with nine to go gave Simpson one last opportunity, but Owens launched better out of turn two and ended the challenge. Dennis Erb Jr. charged from 20th to third, while Brady Smith came from 21st to fourth and Chad Simpson advanced from 24th to fifth.
Owens collected $30,000 and his sixth Lucas Oil Speedway victory since 2010. More importantly, the win was his third Show-Me 100 in succession, matching the three-race streak Bloomquist established from 2003 through 2005. Owens had turned what began with bent bodywork into one of the defining victories of the event's first two decades.
