The story
A field of 127 cars was listed for the May 29, 2000, event, and the feature expanded to 26 starters. Skip Arp qualified fastest at 15.473 seconds, while Phillips won the pole dash and led the opening 56 laps.
Johnson moved ahead for laps 57 through 72 before Phillips regained the lead. The pair traded the top spot again late, but Cook took command on lap 92 and led the final nine circuits for the $34,000 victory.
Phillips finished second, followed by Johnson, Wendell Wallace and Scott Bloomquist. The posted payouts totaled $171,800, the largest documented feature purse in the event’s first eight years.
